Khao Kheow Open Zoo is one of the most popular zoos in the Chonburi region, located a 45-minute drove from the city, and home to more than 8,000 animals and over 300 species, set over an entire land space of 5,000 rai located amongst the Khao Chompu Wildlife Sanctuary near Chonburi City. The zoo is famous for having the biggest tiger center in the Asian Pacific region. Known as a Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, the zoo specializes in preserving wildlife and nature, and as a place of learning and research.

Highlights of the park

Getting personal with the animals – The best parts of visiting Khao Kheow Open Zoo is you get to see the animals in their natural habitats and in some cases you can touch and take photos with Chimpanzee, Macaw, Eagle, Otter and many more, up close and personal.

Large size bird cages– There are thousands of birds living in the nature area of the park, which is set over 5 rai of land. You can do a bit of bird-watching, but a different kind from Walking Street, as you can view and touch lots of birds that include pheasants, peacocks, and beautiful birds from foreign countries.

Eld’s Deer Zoo– Eld Deers are very beautiful animals, and here at the zoo, there is a zone where you can safely touch the deer, and even feed them. The kids always love this section of the zoo.

Elephant Trekking– Take a ride on the elephants and get to grips with these gracious and majestic beasts at first hand.

Night Safari– The night safari at the park is one of its most popular attractions. You can catch loads of animals in their natural terrain by taking a trip on the tram through the park at night to see the Malayan Tapir, Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe and numerous bird species. The entire route is 3.5km long and takes approximately 45 minutes.
